Zink® Double Magnum Duck Call by Rusty Hallock

In 2008 Zink Calls introduced a new duck call to their proven line of calls, the PH-2 Double Magnum. The Double Magnum was developed as a duck call that could deliver volume for those duck hunters that hunt big fields, big water, and hunt on windy days.

I received my Double Magnum just prior to my first duck hunt of the 2008-2009 waterfowl season. The first thing I noticed about the Double Magnum is that the call had built in rasp because of the .014 double reed setup. The call also had incredible volume that was lacking from my PH-2. My first hunt with the Double Magnum found me in a chopped corn field in southern Ontario. The call performed flawlessly! It was the perfect fit for the large rolling grain fields. It had the volume needed for the large fields, but it maintained its pure duck sound all the way down to the soft quacks needed to seal the deal on finishing greenheads. Even though, my duck hunting was limited during the 2008-2009 waterfowl season, the Double Magnum was my go to call for the entire season. It didn’t matter if I was hunting one of the large tributaries that feed the Chesapeake Bay or hunting one of the many cut corn and soy bean fields that surround the bay, the Double Magnum was my call of choice. The reed set-up in the Double Magnum makes the call nearly stick proof. Actually, I never had the call stick on me the entire season. I would describe the Double Magnum as a “4x4” duck call. No matter how much moisture or dirt was in the call, it continued to perform flawlessly. If you are a duck hunter that exclusively hunts small creeks or secluded sloughs, then the Double Magnum probably would not be the best duck call for you. If you are a duck hunter that hunts predominately open water and large fields then the Double Magnum would be the perfect choice.
