Field Proven Calls Adrenaline by Rusty Hallock
In early 2010, Field Hudnall launched his own line of waterfowl calls – Field Proven Calls. Field is one of the most recognizable names in the waterfowl industry and his ability on both duck and goose calls has earned him the title of World Champion. With the introduction of his goose calls, now you can add call maker to his resume. I recently had the opportunity to test drive one of the new Adrenaline goose call by Field Proven Calls and right off I really liked the appearance of the new call. I have always liked the appearance of stainless bands on waterfowl calls, but that is my personal preference and may not be yours. Additionally, the engraving on the call was simple, but effective. I know most hunters allow appearance to play an important role in choosing their waterfowl calls, but you cannot judge a call until you run it. The Adrenaline surely has shelf appeal. The first thing I noticed when I picked up the call was the weight; it has some heft without being too bulky. The mouth piece had rounded edges that provided comfort while blowing and the end piece is slightly flared, fitting comfortably between my index finger and thumb. The flaring on the exhaust end also allowed the call to deliver notes with plenty of volume, which is something I prefer in a goose call; Volume is needed when hunting large fields or hunting on windy days. Even though the exhaust end is designed for volume, I was able to position my hands and alter my air presentation to deliver finesse notes that would be killer on quite days, especially if you are gunning pressured geese. Being able to deliver finesse notes can make or break a day in the field and one of the most important factors in delivering these notes with a rich full sound are guts that are broken in. As most goose hunters know, short reed calls sound better the more you use the call. This is due to the call becoming “broken in.” All Adrenaline Calls come with the Field Proven Calls “Mark 2 Semi Worn Gut” system. The Mark 2 guts have a slight wear line on the tone board that allows for increased travel distance for the reed. This increases the tone quality for a full sound. The semi wear line is a jump start to wearing the guts in properly, but still allows the caller to wear in their own set of guts for long term use. Another quality that the Adrenaline possesses is the ability to easily produce deeper sounds that hunters and contest callers’ desire. This is achieved with the “glodo” style barrel. The proximity of the reed to the caller’s mouth allows the Adrenaline to be responsive. Field Proven Calls currently offers 2 goose calls available at this time; The Adrenaline and the After Shock. Field Proven Calls is currently planning on adding duck calls to their lineup in the near future. If the rest of their lineup lives up to the performance and quality I experienced with the Adrenaline, they will have a great line up.
