Zink's Bird's Eye Maple Money Maker by Rusty Hallock
(c)Rusty Hallock, Game Hogg Hunt ClubTM
In 2004, Zink Calls introduced a goose call
called, the Money Maker at the World Goose Calling Championship in Easton
Maryland. Since then, the Money Maker has been
offered in many different acrylic colors and cocabola, which are available at
most Zink Dealers. One option that you won't see listed on the Zink Website or
at dealers is the bird's eye maple Money Maker. For some reason, when I think
of goose calls, I think of maple. Maple's characteristics lend itself to
producing great goose call. The bird's eye Money Maker is only available from
the Zink Shop due to the low availability of quality bird's eye maple wood.
This call/material combo is the call I use 95% of the time. It doesn't matter
if I am hunting one of the large tributaries that feed the Chesapeake Bay or
hunting one of the many cut corn and soy bean fields that surround the bay, the
Money Maker is my call of choice. By design the Money Maker will deliver
volume for hunting the largest fields on the windiest days, but the lower
density of the bird's eye maple also allows the Money Maker to have a mellow
sound. This mellow sound works great for mimicking the content sounds of geese
resting on the water. The mellower sound of the bird's eye maple also lends
itself to hunting in small fields where too much volume can work against the
waterfowler. There is one down side to the bird's eye maple call is that it is
not as durable as acrylic calls. For the waterfowler choosing the bird's eye
maple call, he has to take extra care of the call to avoid chipping or cracking
the call. This extra care is worth it for the waterfowler that wants a call
that looks great, but more importantly performs like a champ in the field. Copyright (c) 2008 Game Hogg Hunt ClubTM. All rights reserved. |
