I recently received the new Turkey Time University Volume 1 from Zink Calls. Turkey Time University 1 covers mouth calling basics. The DVD features veteran competitive competition caller Josh Grossenbacher and World Champion turkey caller Shane Hendershot. This DVD starts off by getting a glimpse of Shane constructing mouth calls and quickly goes into a discussion on call placement and making sure the call fits comfortably into the hunter's mouth. The one good thing that I noticed is when both Shane and Josh demonstrate proper call position, placement, and air presentation. Both guys operate the calls a little differently, but they both achieve the same results, which is good. This allows the beginner caller to use which ever method is easier learned.

The rest of the DVD covers basic notes for the turkey hunter. Along with each note, the guys from Zink use excellent computer animation to enforce call placement and tongue position. They also compare each note they produce to the sounds of a live hen in the field. Finishing up the instructional portion of the DVD, both Shane and Josh cover the 2009 line of Zink mouth calls. They describe there features and demonstrate each call.

Turkey Time University Vol. 1 ends with a turkey hunt with Shane in Ohio. Overall, this is an excellent instructional DVD for the beginner or average turkey caller because it breaks down the basic notes needed to be successful in the turkey woods. This DVD also demonstrates some of the more difficult notes, such as the "Kee Kee" for the average turkey hunter to take his calling to the next level.
